Arabia Sinilintu//Bluebird

Recently I came across a few of these stunning, extra large chocolate cups. The design is “Sinilintu” or Bluebird by Raija Uosikkinen, in production 1966 to 1975. The striking and bold design of a blue bird amongst flowers and ferns, is beautifully intricate and detailed.

The large (500ml) cup form looks equally good with or without a saucer because of its footed profile.

This pattern as far as I have discovered was only used on this form – not as part of a dinnerware series.

Interestingly when I found these cups, they were paired with saucers from the “Fiesta” design by Ulla Procope of around the same time. The foot fits the saucer exactly the same, but the Fiesta saucer is wider and deeper with a “loser” type of design – although the blue is identical. I like the way the Fiesta saucer “holds” the cup in place better, and the forms seem a bit more balanced.

Both the Fiesta and Bluebird designs were only used on cup/saucer forms.
