Jette Helleroe, Denmark

BR Denmark, "Amazonas" Coffee Set

Jette Helleroe

Jette Helleroe is known Danish potter of the 1960s and 1970s, but not much has been documented about her.  It is known that she worked for both Axella Design and BR Pottery Denmark, and had her own studio in the town of Lonstrup in the northern part of Jutland, Denmark.  Hardly anything has been documented about BR Pottery and its story.

I have had 2 pieces by Jette Helleroe to date, plus an “Amazonas” setting.  The jug below doesn’t seem to be typical of her designs though. Her style in general tends to be more textured and exuberant.

One of the iconic Danish 1960s ceramic designs attributed to Jette Helleroe is “Amazonas”, made at BR Pottery – but no one to my knowledge has ever been able to confirm this. Many pieces of the Amazonas setting are signed EH – but it doesnt seem to be the signature of well known potter Eigil Hinrichsen.

Jette produced a series of fantastically decorated lamp shades and lamp bases while working for Axella. Below is one, and you will usually find several in this style on Etsy.

If you have any pieces by Jette , I would love to see them on the Facebook page for this site.
